Yekaterinburg
|
Founded in: 1723 Yekaterinburg is the fourth-largest city in Russia and has a dynamically growing economy. Combined with the fact that it is the main industrial and cultural center of the Urals Federal District, and at the same time the capital of Sverdlovsk oblast, it has now become the latest city to be a part of the energy saving project, Energy Efficient Quarter. Yekaterinburg is placed in the central part of Russia where Europe meets Asia and the eastern side of the Ural mountain range. Yekaterinburg has already begun some energy saving projects. In fact, Sverdlovsk oblast was one of the first to initiate energy savings and energy efficiency programs in view of the Federal Law 261. One of the challenges in Yekaterinburg is that the condition of the boiler stations is very poor. There has therefore been made a regional 5 year program so that the boiler houses will be modernised. Besides that, new pipelines are also needed if the goal about optimizing the system efficiency and minimizing losses should be reached. |
